Question: Does ram matter when using Virtualbox fully booted onto a USB drive?

The reason I am wondering this is that I have thoughts on using the hodgepodge method of using a virtual machine within a virtual machine, and other than being a x86 architecture processor, does the ram the computer you run it matter? The reason I am wondering is that I think I will run Windows 7 Home Premium, and the main device the USB drive would be plugged into most of the time is a 2 gb chromebook, which is below the basic requirements.
