I know it sounds trite, but as someone who struggles with image and introvertedness, you have to project sometimes to get people to listen to you, be your friends, maybe even more.
You may embarrass yourself in the act of trying, and the important thing is, well, you tried. There’s a lot of positive things to say about that. And don’t worry so much about results, they may or may not come. Other people are not something you can control. Focus on what you can control.
Worse case scenario: you end up feeling better about yourself. Also, don’t do it for others, why not do it for yourself.
