Considerations in buying a "valuable" violin?

Post Body
I'm considering purchasing a Laberte workshop violin from around 1920, worth ca $4500 to $5K. (I'm a fairly advanced hobbiest in my 50s.) I have these questions:
- I feel a sense of moral/historical duty to keep the instrument in good condition, since it's antique. Is this common and warranted, or am I being too worried? After all, this isn't a $50K fine instrument...?
- What if my humidity levels drop for a while? What if I don't play it for a year? Are these reasonable concerns? I'd want to maintain it "responsibly," but I don't know quite how finicky I need to be, or am prepared to be...
- Not super important, but would the instrument appreciate or depreciate in value? I assume it depends on how I maintain it.
- Anything else I should think about or know?
Thanks so much for any insights!
