Is my needle destroying my records?

So a while ago, I replaced my stylus of my Technics SL-BD10 with an Audio Technica AT92ECD. However, I recently looked at one of my records and realized that there were visible scratches on the record (that was purchased new) after playing it. Has my stylus been ripping into my records? If so, what should I replace it with?
