I am creating this post to help people find great punk album that are currently IN PRINT. I hoping that the collective power of Reddit will compile a list of great albums from punk’s roots to the present. The way the thread will work is like this:
Each individual album gets its own thread.
The OP thread for each album should be in this format (with no other information):
Band Name - Album Title
All additional information should be a reply to that album’s thread. Additional information isn’t necessary, but might be helpful. Using the reply function, OP’s should feel free to add information on why they chose it, a copy/paste review, a youtube clip, a link to online store or anything else to help people appreciate the album. Of course anyone can reply to a thread and comment how they wish.
PLEASE only use Upvotes. By using upvotes only, the most essential albums should naturally rise to the top. Using downvotes will skew the results.
Downvotes should only be used if the album is confirmed out-of-print.
Being this is /r/vinyl, it should go without saying that all albums need to be currently available on vinyl, but I mention it anyway. A quick way to check is to hit a few major retail websites (like Insound, Bullmoose, Amazon, soundstagedirect.com, etc) and if the majority of them have it, then it’s most likely still in print. By focusing on in print albums, people can be turned on to new or essential music without having to pay collector prices.
Hopefully this experiment works. If it’s successful, maybe we can create other genre threads for rock, hip-hop, jazz, classical, electronic, etc.
