Are records REALLY that fragile? Is there anything I don't have to worry about with vinyl?

As someone new to the hobby... This sub makes me worry about every tiny detail regarding how I treat my collection. I'm constantly checking if the needle is even slightly bent, if the weight is accurate, if the room temparature is alright, if the inner sleeves are made of the best material, if the grooves are entirely dust-free...

I'm growing skeptical that I would actually notice a difference if I stopped worrying about these things. Just feels like everyone here is super paranoid. I can't imagine people had to be this careful with records back in the day when it was the primary listening format.
