The bro rates my recent pickups (well, one was a gift from my partner)

I firmly believe this is Lana Del Rey‘s best work, followed by Norman Fucking Rockwell, and arguably Born to Die. I feel like they really stripped back her sound here, the production is lush and ethereal. The mix is great with some serious low end, the record sounds amazing. Standouts are probably Florida Kilos, West Coast, Money Power Glory , Shades of Cool. Though there isn’t a single skip on the record. Front to back this is a great record.

I picked up The Stooge’s ‘Fun House’ and their debut recently, and had to compete the collection with arguably their most iconic, brash and gutteral , Raw Power. The record sounds like shit, but that is largely in part to the way it was originally recorded. I remember reading that Iggy, in the height of addiction, recorded this album in record speed, high out of his mind. He raced the tapes over to David Bowie, who found that Iggy hadn’t recorded the instrumentation on different channels, so he only could change the volume on a few things. Hence we have the ‘Bowie Mix’ which I’ve never particularly been a fan of. It’s muddy and lifeless and lacks the energy typical of the early stooges.

Iggy Pop ‘remastered’ this in the late 90’s and it’s just brickwalled to shit. Both of these masters are included. There’s another pressing around 2012 which sounds much better than any other release, but it’s hard to find. Regardless of the audio quality, I had to pick this up to complete my collection. The album is one of my top 5. Raw Power, Penetration, gimme danger, I need somebody…. Again, front-to-back, No skips at all. I’ll never get tired of this record.
