Ryuichi Sakamoto passed away on March 28th, and was one of the most important and renowned Japanese musicians ever. His influence can be felt on a lot of different genres and styles of music, and many of today's artists have cited him as an inspiration. Unfortunately, this is the only Sakamoto album I have but I am going to try to pick up some more of my favorites by him.
If you're unfamiliar with his work, I definitely recommend listening to Thousand Knives of Ryuichi Sakamoto (the album I'm playing), 1996, or async. All three are masterpieces and very different from each other.
