How exactly do you find your parts?

I'm running into transmission issues with my 83 Accord. Popping out of 5th, weird sounds in 5th. 5th is an issue, anyways.
I can maybe find a used transmission a few hours away, but the crazy lack of information re: 2g Accords and what they can fit, what I can source from, etc. is driving me nuts.
Is there any secret to this that I haven't found out yet?
