Well, I did it. I finally managed to score my dream computer: the AT&T 3B2. The very same line of machines I learned Unix on, thanks to SDF. Very excited for it; can't wait to put it to work soon!
Like all eBay finds and acquisitions, one really doesn't know what state or condition it's in until you get it in front of you. All me and the seller really know is that it powers on, and the diagnostic light comes on (which, according to the manual, it's supposed to, while it self tests). But I'll have to build a console cable to see whatever it says or doesn't say on the terminal.
That being said, I'm assuming either the unix installation is borked, or miraculously it isn't and they don't remember the root password. Although I'm not worried about the firmware password since NVRAM is tied to a (probably dead) removable battery, I'm definitely going to need help bringing it up and (re)installing unix. There's an archive full of core SVR 3.2 install disks and other software ready to be DD'd to some 720k disks, but at this point in time I don't have a drive for it.
So, would anyone be able to make these disks for me? I'd be more than happy to compensate of course - lots of time and lots of disks! But I'd really love to bring this machine up as soon as possible.
