Do lightskin black women look better with black hair or balayage/blonde highlighted hair?

I'm around the shade NC40 or Fenty 290-300 and have always kept my hair (wig/extensions) black. I recently bought a blonde highlighted wig and really felt like it brightened up my look and made me look more approachable. My friends complimented me but my mom told me that black looks more natural on me and suits me better. I do feel like black hair looks nice on me but I also feel like it kind of harshens my look. So, I still don't quite know what would be perceived as more attractive on me and if I should I go back to black which would look more natural or keep the change ?
