It may be early, but if people can call this vince’s best project this early I think its a fair take to say this album needs a lot more time to sit with everyone.

I love vince, and before Vince Staples Self titled dropped I always thought BFT was his best project, before that was Stolen Youth or 06’.

One of the few artists I listen to where every album hits for me (almost every, FM was one I didnt enjoy too much, probably least favorite)

But Vince always tops himself with his next album type of artists.

People calling this album his best is pretty bold, 06’, Self Titled, and BFT are top 3 for me. I see the insperations drawn from the other albums to create this one. Very Similar to Tyler’s IGOR where he takes from all his albums and creates his best project.

I see that path with this album but idk, i’ve listened to it about 8 times through. There’s some great high’s to this album, DJ Quik, Magic, When Sparks Fly, Rose Street, The Blues, Lemonade, Mama’s Boy. Some amazing songs and I love the album. But to call this his greatest is still pre-mature to me.

It’s even pre-mature to say Self titled could be but, I LOVE that album. It’s an easy comfort album to me like how Swimming by Mac is. It’s perfect, short and sweet, catchy, melodic, got some bangers on it. This a more enhanced version of that, nearly doubling it’s length in tracks and run time, but its got some skips to it. Most notable is the Lil Baby Track East Point Prayer. Maybe I need more time to lit it sit with me. The Blues is the closest song next to Mama’s Boy for me which captures the magic I love in The self titled album.

Yes I know, Vince cant stick to the same sound, and also cant create the same album over and over again. Thats why I love vince cause of projects like Primma Donna, Hell Can Wait, and Big Fish Theory because he breaks the walls so beautifully.

I’m just saying pump the brakes a bit on saying it’s his best at the moment and lit it sit with us all, people do this every time their favorite artists drops a project and sometimes its true, in this case it could be, like i said, i love the album the production is amazing with Vince’s vocals and style that he uses over each track, from west coast bangers to beach day bombs, to aggresive trap to laid back lofi tracks. The subtle wave’s washing in-between the transitions of tracks or throughout is keen to capturing the essence of this album and it’s amazing that he can have such small details replicate an important part of the identity of the album.

It’s an amazing album and as of right now i’d give it a solid 8.5/10, the lil baby song really throws me off tbh, but as I listen more i’m sure time will change perspectives.

But it’s still awesome and think we can all appreciate Vince being a rare artist to maintain such consistency and improvement in a genre where people ride certain styles to the dirt, or try to replicate other’s success. Shoutsout vince you were in your bag with this album.

Side Note: This album also makes me appreciate self-titled even MORE, and makes me hype for the vinyl even harder. May 20th cant come fast enough.

TLDR; let’s just enjoy the moment of the album before rushing this to make it people’s pinnacle from Vince.
