A useful tweak and a question about using repeat `.`

I found this recently and has been useful, it returns the cursor to the original location after using repeat last action .:
nmap . .`[
On to the question: Often times I find myself running multiple repeats on every line (e.g. j.j.j.j.j.j.) and feels like this could be simplified. I use blockwise visual mode but it's not as flexible as I'd like (I usually only use it for adding stuff to the ends of the lines).
Should I be looking into macros or elsewhere?
