CoC vs ALE or do you need both or is one enough?

I have used both for quite some time now and I mostly work with Go so it never has bothered me that much that they compete behind the scenes. But I recently started working with Ruby again and I found that it drastically slows Vim down that it stops while it does it linting and what not.

So I'm curious, do we still need CoC and ALE or is one enough? Because I like CoC for code completion which is important but ALE does have benefits for linting and what not.
