I use these commands all the time! I almost forgot that these weren't standard, and I wonder why. You need these commands whenever you're working on a software project spanning multiple files and subdirectories.
I usually use a plugin like ctrl-p or fzf for the initial navigation, but once I'm jumping between more than 2 buffers (for which there is C-, strangely) I use my :bn and :bp bindings.
C-o and C-i aren't acceptably replacements for buffer navigation, either. Since internal buffer navigation add to the jump list.
