I'm sorry (blush). It's a scrappy title, I know. But it's trying to say, this isn't about camera - and it's not even about A roll. It's the other roll - and I don't mean drums. Because whatever Hamlet said, when it comes to B, there isn't (I don't think) any 'not to B' where things like YouTube video footage is concerned.
Or, um - there shouldn't B. I mean, be.
But that's it - sort of the problem and the question both. Because if you're doing product placement, travel - heck, even music video, what to use for B roll isn't too bad (well, unless it's mine, in which case it's probably awful (blush)). But - well, I'm an author. And that's where the field of B roll, so far, for me B-comes a B-ugger. Whether it's a book reading, where the A roll is fairly easy - or talking about writing craft, or pretty much anything - because pretty much all of it, as a start, is author-to-camera, what about the B? There's only so much you can do with book cover transitions, especially if you don;t have many book covers - but what else? So I figured I'd come here and maybe see if I can pick some brains. _B_efore I start shooting A roll. If I may, what kind of B roll material might anyone suggest for this kind of use case? I could wander round the library (in non-COVID times) and look for people with their heads buried in books, but it would get kind of old kind of quick - and probably get me arrested. And since the main-street titles I write fantasy, I can't really go shoot 'the action locations'. But if anyone knows how I can get there, I'm on board - just don't wait for me to come back. Like, ever! :-)
