Post Body

Me and my wife plan on traveling the world and making quality content. We are going to make typical vlog stuff and informational stuff but we also have big plans for a docu-series.

We want the content to be of high quality so that it's professional and doesn't immediately turn away the audience. We have little to no experience with social media, vlogging, video making (other than some basic editing skills acquired long ago), but specifically we need help with the equipment. But price is a big factor and all this equipment is quite expensive.

We have a pixel 3 that we have been making the majority of our content with. Decent mic for sound, really good picture and video quality, as good if not better than a DSLR in some ways. But we still are looking to get a DSLR for zoom capabilities and external mics and etc etc.

We were fimling secondary angles with a semi-cheap action camera. The Akaso V50. It has a lot of the higher end features, but we felt the sound quality was too shit and the video quality wasn't quite what we expected. We really figured we need a DSLR for secondary angles and additional options like telephoto lenses.

The DSLR i was looking into for starting out was the Panasonic lumix g7 with the kit lens 14-42mm and an additional telephoto lens 45-150mm. This seems to cover a pretty wide spectrum filming cotent. Also the pixel 3 has a wide angle lens on the front facing camera so we use that for wide angle stuff and it works great.

Additionally, something we didn't really think about was sound quality. Especially when it comes to when we start our docu-series. interview situations will come up and sound will be important especially in outdoor settings. So we looked into shotgun mics, lavalier lapel mics, etc. The mic setup i found that is outrageously expensive and comes with 2 mics is this. From a few video reviews i've seen of it, it looks like it'll get the job done and it sounds pretty darn good compared to the really expensive stuff.

What do you think of these choices for starting out on a pretty small budget? Do you think this will get the job done? Thoughts?
