So back in March/April I was contacted by a company who had got my name from another company I had previously done some work for, and was reaching out to me for a job offer. Now I was ecstatic considering I had just turned 21, and sill wasn't done with school yet, and they were willing to have me start out at part time. I ended up getting the job, and they are currently paying me $18/hr.
It's a small video production company, and there are only 4 of us total so I do everything from animation and motion graphics to editing to shooting and gripping. I'll be getting my film degree in December (which I personally think was a waste of my time for the last part) and am supposed to be going full time, but feel that I should be making more than $18. I have 2 and a half years of professional video experience, and was a student supervisor for my colleges sports video production program (I went to one of the biggest schools in the country, and we shot highlights of every sport you could think of). And have been doing freelance on top of that for the past 3 or 4 years as well.
So in December when I get my degree and have also worked at this company for 6 months and proven myself (so far it's just the two owners and one of their brothers, they were hesitating on hiring someone outside their circle in the first place) how much should I be making? I know this industry is so diverse, and there are so many different job titles it makes it hard to track down a specific dollar amount.
From the research I've done online it seems like someone with similar experience to my own with a degree makes about $25/hr. Does this seem right?
TL;DR
A few months back I got my first full time video job, but will be getting my degree in December and have now proven myself so how much money should I be making?
