I purchased a Sony AX53. Why doesn't it play better quality video than my phone?

I purchased a Sony AX53 about 6 months ago but am not impressed with the quality. It doesn't appear to record better quality video than my phone.

Not only that, but the media file is HUGE! If I record for an hour, it's about 50GB. So it's cumbersome moving and editing such large files. I sometimes wonder what the benefit is of using this over a newer iPhone.

What am I doing wrong? Do I need a different SD card or do I need to buy a lens or something?

Note: I am not a professional videographer. Just an amateur with a video camera.
