I was just listening to Floating Continent from FFVI. My mind went to some similarities between Terra's parents (Maduin of the Esper World and Madeline Bradford); and, Coker of Quiddity and Maeve O'Connell. Whoops! The latter pair are from a twisted adult fantasy called Everville: The Second Book of Art by Clive Barker. The Great And Secret Show is the first novel of the series.
The similarities probably end there: a monster and human couple crossing between dimensions. However, I recalled the Books of Art from years--decades--ago. There were a lot of interesting, disturbing yet all together exceptionally creative things about story/world. And so many characters. I always wondered how they would work in film or as a TV series. Lord of Illusions (1995), which had a character or two and an easter egg from B.O.As, didn't seem to rake in the cash. So, that probably put a hold on any other non-Hellraiser flims from Ole Clive.
But anyways, I was just thinking how much potential there would be in Mr. Barker making an RPG either based on the Books of Art (Book III I've been waiting for for 20yrs and probably won't ever happen) or a new adult fantasy RPG. Not another 3rd Person Shooter Survival Horror.
A game that's something unique in ways of mechanics and story. A possessed drifter turned paranormal PI; and, other unfortunate colorful characters trying to find their senses, take back what was lost and/or survive otherworldly machinations. Cross paths with benevolent monstrosities and dark minions alike. (The latter made of...well, you really don't want to know.) More than a few teratophilic encounters. Forcing yourself an extra visit to Quiddity, the dream sea, to corrupt or preserve it. A story in which "the worst monsters of all wear human faces."
