I've been playing a lot of Greece lately and have made myself a small (and a little rough around the edges) mod for personal use that adds what I feel is a more fun playthrough as Greece.
Overall it's a bit of a buff to Greece but I've played so many times on Vanilla, HPM and HFM that I'm looking less for the challenge of retaking Constantinople and Anatolia and more the fun of doing cool things as a Great power. Oh and this is a submod for HFM at the moment.
What I have so far is the following:
Addition of prinokoki dye and wood to provinces in the Peloponese (these were some chief exports among the maniots along side fruit that is already abundant on the peninsula)
An event around 1843 representing the revolution of the same year. IRL the King granted constitutional rule but what if Greece had overthrown their king and either put a native Greek on the Throne, asked the Great powers for a new king OR asked the Russians for an Orthodox king. Each option has various prestige gains and positive or negative modifiers to great power relations and influence.
Tweaked the Megali Idea event to require only mainland Greece because imo it's dumb that I can't claim the Queen of Cities if I'm missing some random Island in the Aegean and also because IRL Greece did not control the Dodecanese until 1947 but yet invaded Turkey in the 1920s. Also the Idea was first mentioned in the early 19th Century. Also tweaked the decision to give more aesthetic borders (a minor, almost negligible buff)
Added Chemistry as a starting tech and gave the first education reform. This is because the University of Athens was founded in 1837, 1 year after the start date and included science professors so I figured this was fair. It's a blatant buff but it makes playing Greece a bit more fun and a bit less Grindy.
Added events on conquest of Thessalia and West Macedonia that increase christian POPS militancy and consciousness in Ottoman Empire. The idea is to speed up their collapse in Europe to make a more interesting game but the effects don't seem to cause rebels to rise even if I give 10 militancy.
Once Constantinople is in Orthodox hands, Serbian, Bulgarian and Armenian can be added as accepted pops. Not sure if this is OP or not but the idea is that Greece needs to balance the scales internally against a growing and hostile Turkish population. This upsets Turkish POPS. I am also considering giving an alternative "Dark side" option of accepting the Turks and angering the Christians. (But I would never choose this obviously...)
There are Greeks in Southern Italy and Southern Russia as well as in Egypt. There are small minorities but I would like to address them, either with an event inviting the POPS to join Greece OR a more aggressive option to invade these lands. I feel it would be unreasonable to give cores on these provinces but I'm not sure how to make a CB to cede specific provinces (and not whole states)
If the Christians become accepted I am considering a CB to liberate and puppet various small Christian nations in the balkans armenia. Not sure how to make this but I feel as if Greece had taken Constantinople and crippled the Ottomans somehow that they might try to free other Christians in the area and compete for influence over them with Russia. I wonder if Russia would feel threatened by another Orthodox Great power. After all, how can Russia be 3rd Rome if the Greeks retake 2st Rome.
Lastly, I am trying to think of a way to get more Greek pops in old Turkish. lands that Greece also has cores on. I would like to make a CB for this but can't figure out how. For now I have an event that simply removes Turkish cores that are also Greek cores and gives Turkey a shit ton of soldiers, money and military goods as well as a CB to acquire state to represent their fiery resistance to such unjust treatment from the Greeks. It's a bit OP atm (Then again turkey is very weak at this point anyway) and I'd like to make a CB that makes Turkey renounce their cores but I haven't figures out how.
That's about it, what do you think of the balance/fun/historic merits of the events and decisions so far? Anything you feel would be good to add?
Thank you for any feedback and ideas!
TLl;DR: Made some events to make playing Greece more fun, historic and give alt history paths to follow post successful Megali Idea. Tell me what you think and suggest fun/historic things to add
Link to mod if interested, it has some debug decisions in it. I'd say its in Alpha. https://www.mediafire.com/file/9v17ii86621vao6/MoreGreekDecisions - 2018-08-4.zip
