Can you recommend me a mod to play?

Hi. I've only played vanilla, CWE and Kaiserreich. I would really like to play a "big" (well-known) mod that doesn't stray too far from the vanilla experience, but also adds historical (and maybe some alternative) flavor to the game.
Can you recommend me something like this?
