Hi Reddit! Here's some background about my situation: I got a BA (yes arts) in Sustainable Agriculture and Food Production at a small liberal arts school in Vermont that is now closed due to low enrollment (RIP GMC). During that time the most science and math I took was intro to stats, precalc, and ecology.
Since then, I've begun pursuing prerequisites to apply to veterinary school. I'll have taken a year's worth of biology and general chemistry by June. Other classes I still need include; calculus, physics, o. chem, bio chem, regular stats, genetics, and microbio. So a lot...
I'm interested specifically in animal agriculture and dairy science. So, I was looking into MS programs in Animal Science to help me complete my prereqs and get some proper research under my belt. My theory is, a master's degree will leave me with an actual degree whereas a post bacc program will not and I can receive financial assistance for an MS as opposed to a post bacc.
My questions are:
- Can I still take these lower-level science classes while in a master's program?
- Should I have an idea of a research question before I apply to an MS program?
- Should I reach out to someone at the school I want to attend?
- Will I even have a chance to get into an animal science program with my lack of science in undergrad?
