Hello and thank you all in advance.
I need some help figuring out where to focus and what exactly to do to create the best chances of me being accepted into veterinary school. I have a BS (2.6 GPA) that I graduated with a few years back (I did well in my upper level science classes with a 3.4 sGPA). My last 45 GPA is 2.8.
It was my first two years in undergrad that I really didn’t do well in. I have been working as a veterinary assistant for a specialty animal hospital for the last 5 years (roughly ~9600 hours). In the state I’m in we have a lot of liberty, so I currently perform anesthesia & sedation as well as basically anything else you can imagine. I am currently completing a work sponsored CVT program to be able to take the VTNE (basically needed to do this as my state is becoming more strict it’s free through my work). I should have this completed within a year from now.
I really want to go to veterinary school and plan on applying in the next two years, and I am wondering what the best things for me to currently work on to increase my chances of getting accepted. The specialty doctor I currently work with is now my really good friend and is willing to help me in any way possible as well. I know I have many doctors and technicians that would write me letters of recommendation, from board certified surgeons to board certified exotic veterinarians.
I know I will probably be applying to the schools that take a more holistic view for admissions, but I just don’t know if there is anything additional I should be doing to increase my chances. I am open to any suggestions and would love to hear any opinions.
