DVM jobs outside of private/corporate clinic setting?

How many DVM jobs exist outside of practicing medicine in a clinic? For example, teaching jobs, research, consultation, public policy, etc? Are they hard to come by? Would you recommend someone who isn’t interested in private practice go to veterinary school, or take a different path into those areas? I’m a masters student in an animal-related field and am considering pursuing vet school. Does being a DVM open significantly more doors than a BS, MS or PhD?

Always something I wanted to consider but getting paid half of what I get paid in private practice is a non-starter
