More specifically, for potatoes? I'm reusing soil from plastic pots that were already full from the previous owners of our new property. Not sure what, if anything, was growing in them. They weren't made to drain with holes or anything, and a quick Google search told me that that was the reason for the bad smell. I've dumped out all of the soil on a tarp, and have large, cloth, grow bags that I was going to transfer the soil into for potatoes. Now I'm wondering if I should let it dry and air out. I also have some organic 4-4-4 fertilizer, as well as worm castings. Would these be helpful? Seems like dark, dank, moist, rotten smelling soil would be great for vegetables. Just wanted to make sure I'm not screwing up before I even plant my taters. Thanks to anyone who can help. Obviously, I'm new to vegetable gardening, lol.
