Hello all. Quick question about covering my germinating cream peas

Is this a viable option for retaining moisture? I have them planted in large containers. But this Texas heat is making the soil dry very fast. Would covering them with a tarp stunt the growth or damage them? I soaked the seeds for a few hours before planting on the 6th, but I just want to make sure they sprout... Thanks in advance for any advice.
