How deep do I need to turn up the soil in my garden?

So over in the winter I let my garden go and of course it grew a really nice cover crop of weeds 🤣 This weekend I'm going out and using shovels and pitchforks too turn and break up the soil to start preparing it for this year. How deep do I really need to go?
