Which vegetables grow well in clumps together?

Post Body
I'm thinking stuff like Spring Onion or certain types of Lettuce, where you can just scatter the seeds in an area and not have to worry too much about spacing.
I'm a first time gardener and I've been growing stuff in seed starter trays, and it's occurred to me that some vegetables would have worked better if I'd just grown them in clumps, instead of trying to grow each thing individually.
