Sweet potato weirdness

Post Body
I bought some sweet potato starts (slips?) already potted and put them into my raised bed. I tried not to disturb the roots, but I suspect that may have been a mistake. There were four plants, and most of them look like they kept growing in "pot shape".
My guess, if I were to try this again, would be to remove some of the potting soil and ensure that the roots are loose and free to grow naturally.
