Best camping within a few hour drive of Vegas?

My wife and I are looking for some camp sites within 2-3 hours of Vegas during the summer. We’d bring a tent, be willing to hike 1-2 miles if necessary, and really don’t want to be setup right next to other campers if possible. Near water (lake/river) would be ideal, but not mandatory. Any suggestions?
