I went to the PHOF back when it was a storefront on Tropicana... back then, it was nice-ish. They had a lot of working tables, a few Arcade titles, and it was worth a fun couple of hours to kill.
I recently visited the new shiny location, and holy shit. Huge building, cavernous, and full of JUNK. Half the older tables were in pieces or off, a lot of garbage, a lot of out-of-order vending machines. They had a few really VINTAGE video machines that would be cool to play if they were working, and it just had a really sad vibe. There was even a kids birthday party happening on a folding table stuck in a aisle surrounded by broken and hald-disassembled pinball machines, and they were not having fun.
I bought 5 dollars in quarters and didn't use them all.
It's really sad, because the potential is SO THERE.
Today I'm learning how many people from Portland read the Vegas sub.
It's free admission, but the games are between 25-75 cents.
I've been there. They have an impressive lineup of games and they all seem well maintained. Never tried the food, though.
What is a shame because there is seriously an overload of VINTAGE pinball machines (like between the 1940s and 1960s) that are very cool and would be great if they were working, but others have said that the owner won't let anyone else work on the machines, so they all just pile up because he doesn't have time (or motivation) to fix them all.

I live about 10 minutes from Next Level. I admit I am spoiled, because that place is (not so) arguably the best arcade in the world. And that's not even talking about the pop culture museum surrounding all the games. It's an amazing place, and I agree that an admission/free play structure would be better for PHOF, unfortunately they'd have to seriously invest a bunch to fix all the broken machines first before rebranding like that. I'd be pissed if I got charged 30 bucks for admission to an arcade with 2/3 broken machines.
