As long as I hit my protein and calorie goals, does what I eat really matter? (Not with regards to general health, I am asking about muscle gain in particular)

I am currently on a very moderate muscle gain plan. I have, in fact, been the same weight more or less for like 8 months. But I have been getting stronger and such.Anyways, I eat a shit ton of sweets. My goal is 2850 calories a day and roughly 150g of protein a day. Often I will hit my numbers and eat like 600 calories of sweets. Just total trash. Is this going to affect my gains if I hit my other goals? Sorry for the ill defined question, I am not terribly knowledgeable regarding nutrition. Thanks!
