Hi all,
Recently I commented on a post about doing what you can to stay vegan where it is impossible (inpatient treatment for eating disorders) and, having to use my own advice, have since run into a conundrum that I'd like my fellow vegans'/ED peeps' input on:
When you have to choose between two animal product-containing things, would you then pick the one that has the least animal product, or the one that has the least overall ethical impact (including environment etc.)?
For example; choose milk (from Lion Dairy & Drinks) or Ensure meal replacement (from Abbott Laboratories)?
The other option of course is to flat-out refuse food, which results in the administration of said meal replacements 24/7 via a nasogastric feeding tube, and a bad rapport with the treatment team.
Pardon the eating disorder leaking through here, but I would still like to know your thoughts from an ethical standpoint.
TL;DR: When you have to pick between dairy and overall-terrible-companies (whose products may include less animal products by volume), which is the lesser of two evils?
Thanks!
