So somebody on facebook posted a petition to ban halal slaughter practices in the UK. One of my omni friends made a sarcastic comment about only eating meat that was slaughtered in a quiet meadow to the sounds of Enya. I then chimed in to say that in reality it makes no difference, killing an animal to simply eat it is barbaric no matter how you do it.
Of course then some omni I don't know starts posting that halal slaughter is awful and worse than regular slaughter. Well duh, but I tried to explain to him that my point is that it's kinda hypocritical for someone who kills animals to eat them, to get all up in arms about the way somebody else kills animals to eat them. It also means they can conveniently ignore the horrors the animals on their own plate endured, because oh the horror of halal slaughter.
Am I being a bit too crazy? Obviously it's good for halal slaughter to be condemned, but I guess it's a little confusing when it comes from meat eaters.
