Hey, I just wanted to find out whether anyone on here has had any experience with refined coconut oil vs unrefined. I've heard the refined stuff isn't coconut scented/flavored anymore, is that true? Because that would be a godsend to me, but I don't want to shell out the money for it if it isn't accurate.
I love coconut, it's one of my favorite flavors, favorite smells, I drink straight up coconut cream like it's a beverage... but it drives me up a wall sometimes how damn pervasive it is in vegan circles. Breads, gravies, 'meats' and 'cheeses', fried foods. As butter, as milk... hell, even outside of food; pretty much anything you put on or in your body someone's concocted a coconut oil version (and it's found it's way into my house because my family is coconut oil crazy...) And it sucks, because apparently I'm like super sensitive to the taste/smell and if there's even a tiny bit of it in something that's literally all I can smell/taste of it. I really wanted to love Chao cheese when it came out but all I can taste is just... cloying coconut, and it makes the rest of it taste so damn weird and almost rancid. /rant over
Seriously though, am I alone here, or does anyone else share my pain? Cocophobes unite.
