No one in our family or friends circle is vegan or vegetarian, and we have even received judgment and snide remarks from some folks. For our wedding day, we were struggling with how to celebrate it and maintain our values. I know many weddings have catering done on-site and vegan catering exists, but that was a challenge since our venue doesn't allow food inside and we were running out of time to plan an alternative. Instead, I suggested we take our small party (< 20 people) to our favorite vegan restaurant (MeeT in Vancouver, BC).
It ended up working perfectly. We were all able to sit close by (a worry since they don't accept reservations), the non-drinkers enjoyed good NA drinks, everyone had a great time, but most of all, people were amazed by the delicious food. Even the people who consider themselves carnivores were impressed!
It's a small victory, but I hope it inspires anyone else struggling with a similar situation to think outside the box. When people aren't able to fall back on their typical meals (and they don't have to pay for it), they can really come to appreciate great vegan food!
And I love my wife even more for us taking our leap into veganism together :)
