Post Body

First off, I don't have any pictures of the finished product with me currently. I still need to sand them down and seal them, but I have SketchUp pictures and the files. I'll retro update the post with finished photos and placement as soon as I get there.

The bed is divided into 3 sections so I can move them around if needed. A bed segments' dimensions are about 24" x 7 1/2" x 20". The bed is incredibly short so I can sit up and not hit my head on the roof. The depth of the extended bed comes out to around 32" and in bench form, 16".

Tools used:

  • Miter saw
  • CHEAP table saw (couldn't cut straight board to save my life)
  • 120 grit sand paper
  • Several wood screws of various sizes... lost count sadly.
  • Wood glue

Materials used:

  • 3 - 2" x 4" x 12" boards (cut in half to fit in the SUV)

I used ALL "whitewood" which was most likely a pine wood and came out to a whopping $35.

  • 6 - 2" x 1" x 6" boards (these are just used for the slats)

Same here, all "whitewood". These were a couple of bucks each. Estimating $12.

  • 6 butt hinges, about 3 inches wide.

These came in packs of 2 for about 3 dollars a pack. So estimating about $9.

Excluding the tools needed, that brings this project to an estimated $56.
