I am intrigued by this van living concept because it runs parallel to the way I live which is off grid on a sailboat. I'm curious because there is tons of talk about "stealth" and parking, is it really that hard to find a place to park? Why don't you just go to a very rural area and hang out? In a boat I can anchor pretty much where ever I want within reason, not in a main channel. Most places you can't anchor you wouldn't want to anyways due to exposure. Why is it so hard to find a place to park and why do van dwellers, seemingly, stick to urban areas?
Just curious.
Whenever someone gets all in arms about how we live in a "free" country my response is simple. Go sleep in your car somewhere and show me how free we are.
I'm in Colorado but it's like that everywhere in the states. Unless you have developed properly you don't know what you are dealing with.

"free of government intrusion". I know first hand that you do not understand what you are talking about.
You have on rose colored glasses. We purchased vacant land in the middle of no where. Up front the county needs a driveway permit, a septic permit, a solar permit. You have to have special engineered plans for the special climate. Better have submitted your building permit with engineered plans. If you do not then you are considered a camper and only can stay on your own property for 14days before you are in violation of the law. They would not renew my vehicle registration because my building permit was expired. So many scams are normalized. How is that free? Even if you own property that will not let you park on it!!!
