Hello, I'm originally from Brazil and there it's common practice for pet owners (or parents with small children) living in high-rises to enclose their balconies and windows with safety nets.
Now I'm living in Vancouver with my wife and her cat, and so far we've been forbidden by the landlords from enclosing our balconies in every apartment we've rented.
Our cat is young, very energetic and clumsy, and would probably fall off a window if given the slight opportunity. That keeps us from ever opening the windows, as well as completely losing access to our balcony. Summer has been really unforgiving thanks to that.
How do Canadian cat owners deal with this problem? Do you just lock your cat in a room every time you need to open a window? Do you use mosquito nets or other safety measures that don't go against building policy?
