To clarify when I say offshoot I don't mean in the Revolution sense but more just a divergence from the squad structure of the games. A Valkyria Chronicles Gaiden if you will.
One of my favourite aspects of Valkyria is the love each squad's armour gets, from the Edelweiss to the Hafn and the smaller ones too, the customisation and versatility of them as units has always been really fun for me.
After watching Fury for the tenth time Ive got this real craving for a tank centric Valkyria game. A campaign that focuses on a tank division, three or four tanks and their crews. The assignment of crews could be really interesting, having specific potentials for certain roles in the tank and having crew members work better with some than others. It could highlight some of the in universe tensions (a superstitious crew is assigned a Darcsen newbie), and could really work in the perma death aspect too.
They might have to include some slightly deeper mechanics around the tanks, such as bringing back tread damage, but you still could get a variety of missions, especially if they included infantry as guests on some missions or one or two where the crews have to leave the tanks.
But maybe this sounds boring as hell to you, so what direction would you like to see a one off side story of VC go in?
