Hey I wanted to suggest the addition of physical maps to valheim. I hopped into my friends world and the map was not filled out making it a little inconvenient. It also seemed that there was no way to share except through screenshots. I think a physical map system could be a great way to share your map with friends.
One way I was thinking of is that we actually spawn into the world without a map. Fairly early one, we actually unlock cartography by harvesting reeds or a similar resource to make paper. But we need to produce an appropriate tool, let's just say a pen, and pigments.
Reeds will allow you to make a blank map. Your pen will allow you to fill it out. Your pigment selection will allow you to freedraw markers of any kind, including roads, labels, circles, whatever, in various colours.
As with any other item, your map will be dropped upon death, but that's ok because you can draw copies. The copies can be stored in your base in a chest or hung on a wall or even on a table. As you explore, any maps you are holding will be filled out, but to update your backup map in your base, you will need to take the map you've been exploring with home and fill it out by interacting with it.
By putting your map on a wall in your base, you and your friends can go explore different areas, return, and update each others maps together to increase efficiency.
When you encounter other players out in the world you can share knowledge with them. You can do this either by trading an entire map with them, or through an interaction where you fill out part of their map for them. This will be customisable and you can determine what sections of the map you give away, and whether you want to share any of your custom markers. Alternatively you can kill them and just take their map if you're that way inclined.
Let me know what you think.
