Valheim is fun but definitely needs a lot of work

Post Body

My whole guild loves it and is playing it but it plays like would be fun if were high on downers. I play nearly any survival game under the sun but between the poor UI, clunkyness of switching between building and moving around, and the general combat I just can't enjoy it.... Here's my criticism on what could be improved.

  1. E or F to loot all when opening a chest.
  2. Build menu accesible without hammer, then just use the hammer to repair or disasemble.
  3. Add some shine to tin/copper deposits so they stand out.
  4. Nerf starter burial grounds just a little. For solo it was doable, but not enjoyable at all. I just felt like I was playing a game of kiting, not actual combat.
  5. Longer daytime, less storms, more types of sunny weather. The overall feeling of the game is gloomy and not entirely joyful.
  6. Hold and drag for placing long section of walls/spiked walls at once. Or wider spiked wall sections, maybe 3-4 wide so less tedious.
  7. Surtling Core as a drop from all skeletons, not just found in burial chamber. (if it is already then I haven't got one)
  8. Longer stamina bar. (or at least reduced amount used to swim and jump, we're vikings for oden's sake, give us the spirit of one)
  9. A way to anchor our boats so quit wasting a minute getting it to park right
  10. More durability on weapons/tools. Less leather scrap/hide requirements on couple things such as I shouldn't need to kill 10-15 deer to make a single tanning rack realistically.
  11. Ability to place simple things on ships like a brazier for cooking. (or just add one natively to the larger ships)
  12. Clipping through boats when not seated. Have lost a few people already...
  13. Poison needs damage per tick reduced. Near every time any poison means death.
  14. Food last longer. Why am I eating 3 meals continously every couple minutes... hunting is already unenjoyable, I get lit on fire 50% of the time cooking meat or choking on smoke, and then it lasts a couple minutes and lose stamina/health bonus...
  15. Remove food affecting max health/stamina. As is the system brings zero joy and I just find myself continuously frustrated. If anything just have it give a temporary buff for better quality food, but 25 as the base just feels like you want to be survival dark souls.
  16. Food duration not go down if standing still and not regenerating anymore health/stamina. I find myself consantly just logging out of game if going to be gone for even a minute because of how frustrating food usage is.

Frustrating isn't necessarily the right word.... I have thousands upon thousands of hours in survival games. It's just not enjoyable to play.... It feels like playing Resident Evil 4 in this day and age. The controls did not age well. And likewise with this game.

Thousands of hours in each of LOTS of survival games, but the mechanics, UI, and everything about this game just feels like the $3-5 survival games you pick up in indie humble bundles. I could also make you run 18 laps around the house before each time you move your chess piece then have to cut 18 pieces of cardboard to see the board, but unnecessary slowness and clunkyness isnt' an improvement to the core game.
