I appreciate your recent email addressing the tragic events and the commendable unity demonstrated by our UT Dallas community during these trying times. Your words about fostering open communication, respect, and kindness are indeed admirable. However, it's worth remembering the old adage that "actions speak louder than words." To truly demonstrate your commitment and concern for the situation, I urge you to consider a tangible gesture that goes beyond rhetoric.
With all due respect, your ownership of a $25 million private (Bombardier Global 5000) jet contradicts the principles of empathy and shared responsibility you've highlighted in your message. Many in our community believe that selling such an extravagant asset and directing the proceeds towards humanitarian efforts would be a genuine display of solidarity. Additionally, your email has been called into question by some who feel that your assertions about the situation are based on unverified information from biased sources. By taking a concrete step to support those affected, you would not only silence such critics but also set a powerful example for the entire university community.
In these times of turmoil and misinformation, an action like selling the private jet would speak volumes and reaffirm your commitment to the values you've articulated in your message. If you choose not to do so, it would be difficult to reconcile your sympathy with the people when you continue to enjoy luxuries only accessible to the top 0.001%, which would undermine the very message you've conveyed.
Sincerely,
UTD Student Body.
