Now that it's impossible for it to work here's a failed solve.

I'm sure you've heard of the Donner Party, and I know I've seen some other speculation on them, but if not; They came to Utah from the "Hasting's Cutoff, which acted as a failed shortcut attempt. Running off this, I found one notable choir along the path, the Oquirrh Mountain Bell Choir. So turning to the Oquirrh Mountains, I followed a straight line of ice cream shops, taking me to a reservoir, which does have Crawdads in it. At this Reservoir was a trail, called Dark Trail (the shadow) so I followed it. It follows a road and at the end we walked down the road and there was a sign with a 17 on it (One-Eyed Willie was a 17th Century pirate) but alas, no luck. We continued up the Upper Dark Trail, which had a fork with a view eastwar (When you can see the sunrise go straight) so we did. It started getting late and a little too difficult, so we turned around. Now it's out of bounds.
