Passport expiring before H1 extension - need gudnace

Hello Folks
My Indian passport is set to expire in May 2027 and my H1 extension is going to expire in July 2027 ( 2 months after passport expiration). I need to appointment for an H1 extension for this Dec 2024 or next year. Can someone guide me if I can do below:
- Fill DS160 with old passport and secure appointment
- Apply for new passport in India
- Carry both passports and explain the situation to CBP?
If above is not possible, please provide what should I be doing now ! Thanks
