Hi guys. I am currently a second year med student and will be taking step 1 next summer. I am a bit anxious about the exam. In high school, I had to take the ACT 5 times to get a 30 (1st time score-20; 2nd time-26; 3rd time-28; 4th time-29; 5th time-30) Whereas there are people I know who got above a 30 on the ACT on their first or second try. I attended an Ivy League for undergrad. I am currently at a top ten med school and got in through a program that waives the MCAT. Anyway, my experience with the ACT and having to take it multiple times to get a high score has sort of made me internalize a fear that I’m not good at standardized tests. Also, the fact that I did not take the MCAT and did not have the experience of preparing for the MCAT is making me a bit worried about Step 1. In high school, I had a 4.0 GPA through out but just never excelled on the ACT. During my undergrad, I did well in all my exams. In medical school, I am also excelling in my exams and not struggling with any topic. But I don’t know if Step will be the same situation as my experience with the ACT, where I was doing great in school but couldn’t translate that success to standardized tests. What do you guys think?
