Hey Fellow UXers!
I'm working on a project that calls for a SSN. What are your thoughts on masking it?
Example: •••-••-1234
I work in healthcare, so loads of my users are elderly. I'm worried about the users ability to double check their input if it's masked. I was playing with the idea of having a "unhide" button, but I don't think it really will help for the technically challenged.
The entire concept of masking a SSN makes 0 sense to me. I wouldn't enter the SSN in a place where someone could see it, and don't see the point.
I am leaning heavily away from masking the SSN, but my non-ux colleagues disagree with me.
What are your thoughts on the matter?
