SFO or NYC?

I’m a first-time traveler to the USA as a tourist, from the Philippines. Just wanted to ask, which is better to see first (as a tourist), San Francisco or New York? I’ve checked flights of these two, and found out tickets are a bit higher to NYC compared to SFO ($100-$200 difference).
Also, when is the best time to visit? I’ve checked airfares for August and September for price points comparison.
