How Quickly Do You Actually Reach Highest Step Pay?
Post Body

Hello All!

Just curious, all things being positive...good economy, good performance reviews, fed raises, etc.

How long does it take to make the highest step salary?

By this I mean you start as a GS10 S1 @ $56528. The last Step, 10, being $73484. If nothing changes in fed raises and you remain in the same Grade...that would take 10 years to reach if I understand correctly?

But with fed raises, yearly performance reviews, all that...how long does it actually take to reach $73484?

What's your best tip to jump as far up ahead as possible each year?

EDIT

So many good replies and good information. Thank you all for helping me understand how GS Grades/Steps work and for the tips!
